Travel Information

  • Mexico is a foreign country and a passport is required
  • Destination for flights is San Jose Del Cabo International Airport. Try to avoid flights through LA if possible since it is always a nightmare going through LAX. Some direct flights are available but if not, try to go through Phoenix if you’re coming from the west coast.
  • We have coordinated an arrangement with Cactus Car Rentals to make sure all our visitors are treated fairly. The shuttle bus for the rental companies are right out front as you exit the terminal. There are also a few bars to begin your adventure.

Currency Information

  • It is best to convert what money you might need to Pesos. If you let the local merchants exchange dollars for pesos, they may use whatever exchange rate they feel is appropriate, and it is difficult to challenge. Credit cards are accepted at most establishments, but your credit card company may add on a small fee for each charge. ATMs are available but oftentimes your card will not work unless you notify your bank in advance. There is also a risk of having your information stolen through these machines so best to avoid, if possible. Don’t even try going to a local bank – the lines are long and not gringo friendly.
  • It is very handy to download an app on your phone for conversion of currency so you have a quick idea of what things cost prior to purchase if not provided in US dollars.

Travel Tip: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your trip dates.

Traveling From the Airport to the House

  • Once you get your rental car you will proceed north out of the airport on to the toll road then heading west as you circle around the top of the airport.
  • There will be a toll house where you will pull a ticket to turn in at the other end of the toll highway…it runs about $5 to go to either Highway 19 north to the house or south down into Cabo directly.
  • One decision you might want to make at this point is if you want to get some food and supplies before you go to the house since there are no stores once you turn north up Highway 19 towards the house. If you do, head south on Highway 19 towards downtown Cabo. In about 10-15 minutes you will see a grocery store called La Comer on your right-hand side. This place is great and has everything you will need…after you load up, head back up Highway 19 the way you came and follow the next direction.

  • Once you reach Highway 19, head north towards Todos Santos. You will pass an electric plant on the right-hand side a few miles up from the intersection and then pass an electrical tower a couple miles further on your left. As you go over the next hill and come down into the next valley, you will see a quad rental company called GForce Adventure on your left…a few thousand feet further there will be an old three-story concrete building also on the left. Be ready to turn left into the property – there are no markings on the road or signs, so be ready.
  • There are two reflective red markers that you can see at night but it is very easy to miss. The edge of the road into the property is quite wide but a little rough in the first half, so go the far end of the driveway – it is a little smoother.
  • As you pull in, you will see an entry sign for Rancho Migrino Haciendas (see photos). Proceed to the left side entrance. There will be a locked gate for which you should have a key. Open and use the rope to attach it to the post to keep open while you proceed through and then close behind you and lock.
  • The house is at the very end of the road (about 1.5 miles). Go to the left when you get to the round-about. Look out for wild horses, burrows and bunnies as you drive down the road.
  • You have arrived!

Upon Arrival at the House

  • You should have keys or entry codes for both the main house and the casita.
  • There should be a patio table, chairs, ottomans, and lounge chairs just inside the sliding doors, if not already out around the pool area.
  • The sliding doors can be opened all the way and slide into the walls for hiding away.
  • The internet password is pacificside (all lower caps).
  • There is a substantial solar system with a back up generator that should give you the basic energy you need but it is wise to keep usage to a minimum if possible. On the case of cloudy days (rare, but it can happen), the panels just can’t produce enough electricity to run everything. Try to stay away from the ACs in the bedrooms unless you just want to cool things down for just a short period.
  • The water is brought in every few weeks and there is a large sanitized 20,000 liter underground storage tank next to the house. The water is OK to drink, but as backup there is a filter system in the sink and Brita containers are available. It’s also not a bad idea to stock up on bottled water.
